Sailauf

Sailauf is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg. The place is in Vorspessart near Aschaffenburg and one of the oldest settlements in Vorspessart.

Community structure

The municipality Sailauf has three officially designated districts (in brackets the number of inhabitants ) in two districts:

  • Eichenberg ( 788 )
  • Sailauf ( 2,861 ) Weiberhof

Northeast of Sailauf are 19 small enclaves of the municipality in the area of ​​Sailaufbachquelle.

The former districts Obersailauf, Mittelsailauf and Untersailauf are now grown structurally and form the district Sailauf.

Etymology

What is the name actually derives Sailauf, is not precisely known. There are two possible theories:

  • The village name is based on the old personal name Sigelouf.
  • The name is derived from the Bach Sailauf that flow in the municipal area of ​​the Laufach. There is this creek of the same name and is often developed in the region place names and waters, this etymology is more likely.

History

Already in 1089 there was the early church of the upper Aschafftales. 1189 we find the first mention of the manor's Sigilovf (s) thereof, the name Sailauf developed. In the 13th century Sailauf was temporarily under the rule of the Counts of Rieneck which the castle " Landesere " built on the nearby Graefenberg. Built in 1265 the Elector of Mainz, Werner von Eppstein the hunting lodge " castrum vivarium ", which was later renamed " Weyberhof ". When in 1349 the plague raged in Europe, the Spessart was nearly deserted. After Sailauf later settlers from the Steigerwald came. In 1552 the castle was " Weyberhöfe " destroyed in the Second Markgraflerkrieg.

In the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) Sailauf was almost completely destroyed. 1789 was built on Sailauf the St. Vitus Church, which probably already the fourth church on this site is. 1803 ended the reign of the Elector of Mainz in Vorspessart, and 1814 came Aschaffenburg and the surrounding area in Bavaria. Coat of Arms history The blue links oblique wave bar represents the location of the village at the confluence of the streams Sailauf and Steinbach. The green oak branch points to the rich oak Spessart, in which the municipality is located. Since the mid-13th century until 1803, the village belonged to the Electorate of Mainz, to which the coat of arms by the silver wheel ( " Mainzer Rad " ) and the red oblique bar links are pointed out. The colors red and silver are the colors of the electorate. The coat of arms was granted on 21 March 1969.

Landmarks / environment

  • The late Baroque St. Vitus Church ( 1789) on a hill is probably on three Vorläuferbauten back (see above). St. Vitus was the mother parish for 10 settlements in the area. From the Romanesque First year ( 11th century ) of the tower as well as a mask console below the helmet survived, the so-called Bleck mouth. A crucifixion group is located on the south side below the external fresco of a Madonna of Mercy. The interior dates from the 18th century.
  • The cemetery is also the core back to the medieval system. The baroque sculptures adorn the entrance of the church's patron saint Vitus, the Virgin Mary and the plague saints Sebastian.
  • The structural fabric of the city is historically younger. The present Town Hall in timber ( since 1938 ) was established in 1800 (originally Forestry 's house, bakery and grocery store ). The small onion clock tower is an ingredient of 1940. Prior to the town hall is a weathered shrine with Pietà.
  • The school building ( brick ) is from 1906.
  • Above the church biking and hiking trails lead to a trail through the orchards. The Sailaufer pastor Bonaventura reputation ( 1938-1988 in office) was an active supporter of the local apple and quince cultivation, was a major industry in the community until the 1950s. With the global fruit imports since the 1960s, the orchard areas have declined gradually. The trail leads to the Hofwiesenteichen ( fishing pond ), the Sämenhof past ( Aussiedlerhof with restaurant ) and the Rottenberger chapel, thus integrating Rottenberg, Oak Mountain, the Sailaufer forest and the Englishman.

Social

In Sailauf exists a varied social life, also known nationally and successful are the juniors of the Bavarian Red Cross.

Two special Sail supervisors are the annual Sailaufer Garlic Festival and the Festival Tsukahara.

On social institutions, there are two kindergartens and a primary school. The church is affiliated with the Association of Municipal Music Schools.

Sailauf 2009 was known nationwide as the Church of the Resurrection, inaugurated in 1971 over the protests of the faithful and citizens was demolished at the behest of the Diocese of Würzburg. The church was a concrete building designed by the architect Emil May The building was considered a monument at the Bavarian State Conservation Office.
