Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 470

The sailing competition in the 470 class at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held in the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy from 2 to 8 August 2012. 54 athletes (27 crews ) took part.

The competition was conducted in ten races ( fleet race ). The first nine races were completed by all starters. Here, points were awarded for the place number. In the final account, the worst result was deleted. The ten sailors with the lowest score were qualified for the medal race. The previous points were taken, but doubles the placement points for the medal race.

For false starts ( OCS on course side), and a race crash ( DNF ) received the glider in question 28 points. Also in disqualification ( DSQ ), the starter got 28 points. In addition, the jury could also distribute throughout the race penalty points (DPI = Discretionary Penalty Imposed ).

Full Time

For the first time in the 470 class to defend his title a sailor. Malcolm Page (AUS) won in Beijing in 2008 with his partner Nathan Wilmot the race. For the UK, it was the third consecutive silver medal in this class.
