Saint-Gervais, Val-d'Oise

Saint- Gervais is a commune with 961 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Val- d'Oise in the Île- de -France region. The inhabitants call themselves " Bercagniens " or " Bercagniennes " because the church previously had the name Bercagny.

Geography

The municipality of Saint- Gervais is located about 62 kilometers north- west of Paris, two kilometers north of Magny -en- Vexin, the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the Canton of Magny -en- Vexin. It is located in the Regional Natural Park Vexin français.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Gervais are La Chapelle -en- Vexin in the northwest, Alincourt in the north, Nucourt in the east, Magny -en- Vexin in the south and southeast, Hodent in the south and Omerville in the West.

The municipality is part of the hamlet Magnitot.

History

The name Saint- Gervais was the community in the 9th century, when the relics of St.. Gervase were transferred from Rouen in the church of the village, to protect them from the raids of the Normans.
