Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the Danube- forest in the lower Bavarian forest, more precisely in Dreiburgenland. The small town of balances Castle is located near the B85 and nearly 30 km north of Passau, 13 km southwest of Grafenau, 28 km north-east of Vilshofen on the Danube and 20 kilometers from the National Highway 3 (exit Garham ) away.

History

The balances castle was built in 1368 by Heinrich Tuschl of Söldenau in order of the Counts of neck to the trade route to secure Golden Path. Since 1677 it belonged to the Counts of Preysing. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark whose seat was Saldenburg. 1841 was the church today. In 1928, the balances castle was expanded into a hostel.

National Socialism and World War II

During the Second World War by Saldenburg children Slovenian resistance fighter ( partisans ) were sent, which were separated in retaliation under duress from their families and were distributed from Slovenia over Bavaria (Franconia).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: In red and silver in the battlements cut split main shield in black, a broad golden bar, in a blue crown.
