Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality in the Donau -Wald Bavarian Forest is located directly on the edge of the Bavarian Forest National Park. The district Finsterau, 1000 meters high, is one of the most remote villages in the Bavarian Forest. There is 1130 meters above sea level, a border crossing to Bučina in the Czech Republic for pedestrians and cyclists. Buses of the National Park drive to the border crossing. This can also be reached by private car, but the access 9-18 clock is prohibited. Mauth itself is located ten kilometers north of Freyung, 20 kilometers northeast of Grafenau and removed approximately 44 kilometers from Passau.

History

At the top Golden Path originated 1687-1724 the villages in the municipality. Mauth came with the largest part of the Bishopric of Passau in 1803 to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany. Since the peace treaties of Brno and Bratislava in 1805 the place belonged to Bavaria.

The Mauth was formed in 1811 with the settlements Finsterau, Heinrich Brunn, High tubes, Mauth, Waldmühl and twelve houses. The community of 1818 rejected the settlements Prince hut ( Neuhütte ) and four houses it. 1825 acted as more districts Neuhäusler and Neuhüttenmühle. At the latest in 1841 were Prince hut and Neuhäusler fused to the hamlet Neuhütte. From the settlements Finsterau and Heinrich Brunn was removed with effect from 1 January 1900, the new church Finsterau.

By setting the use of wood in 1970, founded Bavarian Forest National Park, the municipality developed more and more to the resort.

Incorporations

With effect from 1 January 1946, the districts Annathal, Anna Thalmühle, Bärnbachruhe and Müllersreut were ( Raumreut ) connected to the municipality with the dissolution of the community Annathal. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, the community Finsterau came on 1 January 1978 back to Mauth.

Mayor since July 1, 2005 Max Gibis (CSU ), which was confirmed at the municipal election in 2008 in the first round with 61.54 % of the valid votes in office.

Economy, agriculture and forestry

There were 1998 in the field of agriculture and forestry none, in the production sector 128, and in trade and transport, no social insurance contributions at the workplace. In other areas, were employed to social security at the workplace of 111 people.
