Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the Danube- forest in the heart of the Bavarian Forest. Eppenschlag is located on the B 85 near the border with the district of Regen, the resort is located 40 km southeast of Viechtach, 20 km south of Zwiesel, 45 km north of Passau and 33 kilometers from the National Highway 3 (exit Hengersberg ).

History

In 1395 were named in eight Epenschlag goods. Eppenschlag belonged to Rentamt Straubing and the district court Bärnstein of the Electorate of Bavaria and was the seat of a chairman shaft.

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community. 1830 burned the village almost completely, 1875 and 1899, there were small fires. Mayor

Mayor 's Christian Suss (CSU ). His predecessor, Charles Reith (CSU ), who was elected unopposed in 2008 with 92.1 % of the valid votes, resigned after 35 years in office, 1 May 2013 for health reasons.
