Ringelai

Ringelai is a town in Lower Bavaria Freyung -Grafenau. The small spa resort is named because of its good climate conditions also " Schmalzdobl " and " Merano of the Bavarian Forest ."

Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the Donau-Wald Bavarian Forest, precise cut deep, wide valley of Wolfsteiner Ohe. Ringelai is located about 8 km west of the county town Freyung, 11 km southeast of Grafenau, 18 km north-east of Tittling and 33 km north of the university and Passau.

The valley of Ringelai is framed by mountains, of which the priest stone ( 731 meters) in the west and the woman stone (632 meters ) to the east are the most famous. The main town Ringelai lies at an altitude of 410 meters.

History

The village was named in 1312 for the first time, appertaining to the monastery Niedernburg ( Passau). At that time a Christian of ring loaf occurred at a farm shop as a witness. The strange name of locality is difficult to interpret, probably he referred to the " Verleib " ( Old High German: laiba ), the location, the establishment of a Ringolo.

The early reports mention the repeated compared to other villages in the Bavarian Forest fertile soil and great prosperity of the village. Here was the border area between the Bishopric of Passau and the Electorate of Bavaria. At the clergy stone are still landmarks from 1691 obtained. Out there in Ringelai a Christkindl pilgrimage. Church

The present church of Ringelai was 1919/20, planned short by the famous architect Michael southern Germany. It is dedicated to Mary Patrona Bavariae. Coat of arms

The coat of arms description of the escutcheon of 1965 is as follows: In Blue over Silver Three mountain, in a dreiblätteriges green shamrock, a golden landmark, the wave beam is a silver lining. The landmark is reminiscent of the former border between the Bishopric of Passau and the Electorate of Bavaria before 1803. The shamrock is a symbol of the fertility of the soil.
