San Borja Municipality

The municipality of San Borja is a district in the department of Beni in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

The municipality of San Borja is one of four Municipalities of the province Ballivián and is located in the southeastern part of the province. It is bordered on the northwest by the municipality of Reyes, on the west by the municipality Rurrenabaque, on the southwest by the Department of La Paz, on the south by the province Moxos, on the east by the province Yacuma, and to the north by the municipality of Santa Rosa de Yacuma.

The largest town and administrative center in the municipality is the town of San Borja with 16,273 inhabitants ( 2001) in the center of the municipality, the second largest settlement is Yucumo with 3,090 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality of San Borja is located in the Bolivian lowlands, directly east of the Sierra Muchanes, a portion of the Vorgebirgsketten of the Cordillera Oriental. The region's climate is tropical and humid all year round, the original vegetation is the tropical rain forest.
