San Francisco Seals (ice hockey)

The San Francisco Seals were an American ice hockey franchise in the Western Hockey League from San Francisco, California.

History

The San Francisco Seals were established for the 1961/62 season as a franchise in the Western Hockey League. The two most successful years in franchise history were the seasons 1962/63 and 1963/64, when the team won the Lester Patrick Cup, respectively.

When the National Hockey League in 1966 announced after the time of the " Original Six " league for the 1967/68 season to expand to six teams earned Barry van Gerbig the San Francisco Seals, and there was no suitable ice rink in San Francisco, moved it to the franchise to Oakland. In the Oakland Arena, the team completed another season under the name California Seals in the WHL. Subsequently, the city received an NHL franchise and played from then on with a same team in the NHL.
