Scheffau is a municipality with 1344 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Lammer Valley, Tennengau (district Hallein ) in Salzburg, Austria. The competent jurisdiction is Hallein.
Geography
The municipality is located in the south of Tennengau in Salzburg. The Lammer flows through the municipal area. Quarters are: Unterscheffau, Oberscheffau, Voregg, Wallingwinkl, Weitenau. Katastralgemeinden are Scheffau, Voregg and Weitenau. Until the end of May 1923, the village belonged to the district court Golling, since June 1, 1923 she is part of the judicial district of Hallein. The community is located at the foot of up to 2,300 m high Tennen Mountains, which forms the border with the Pongau in the south. In the north, the municipality share of up to 1600 m high Osterhorngruppe. The main residential area is located in the Lammer Valley in the places Unterscheffau and Oberscheffau.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Scheffau, Voregg and Weitenau.
History
The first written mention of Scheffau as Scheffawe place in the year 1249, respectively. St. Ulrich church in Scheffau existed but already in the 10th century as a parish church for the whole Lammer Valley and was known as Sanctuary. Self employed the community Scheffau was with the separation of Golling in the year 1849. 1939 the district Weitenau / Wallingwinkl was incorporated.
