Sekigahara (Gifu)

Sekigahara (Japanese関ケ原 町, -chō ) is a municipality in the district of Fuwa in the southwest of Gifu prefecture in Japan.

Sekigahara is at 123 m altitude in the immemorial important passage through a mountain ridge between Kansai and Chubu.

History

In 1600, the fateful Battle of Sekigahara took place here. Sekigahara was the 58th coaching (宿 场 町Shukuba -machi ) of Nakasendō during the Edo period.

Geography

Sekigahara is located in the southwest of Gifu Prefecture near the southeastern foot of Mount Ibuki.

Attractions

Attractions include the old battlefield and the Sekigahara Matsuri in March. There is also a sesame Museum.

Traffic

The Sekigahara Station, the community is connected to the JR Tōkaidō Main Line and a highway exit to the Meishin highway.
