Sioux Falls Skyforce

The Sioux Falls Skyforce are a team of the NBA Development League, which is based in Sioux Falls ( South Dakota). Before the year 2006, the team in the Continental Basketball Association ( CBA) was active.

History

On 14 February 1989 it was announced that in Sioux Falls a CBA expansion team will be located. The team name " Skyforce " was determined in a competition.

The first game of the Skyforce took place on 16 November 1989 and was lost with 79:85 against the Rapid City Thrillers.

1994 Flip Saunders became head coach and led the team with a 34:22 balance for the first time in the club's history in the play-offs. Then Saunders was brought by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. The Skyforce hired Morris "Mo" McHone as the new head coach. He became the most successful head coach in club history. Between 1995 and 1999, the team was able to win 142 games (with only 82 defeats). McHone led the Skyforce to three CBA finals series. 1996 won the Sioux Falls Skyforce even the CBA title.

On 8 February 2001, the CBA presented briefly on their gaming operations and the Skyforce joined the rest of the season of the IBL. In the IBL playoffs they lost to the Rockford Lightning. Already in the next season, the CBA took back to their gaming operations. 2005 was the Skyforce win for the second time the CBA championship.

On 6 April 2006 it was announced by the team that they joined after 17 years in the CBA to the NBA Development League. In addition, Mo McHone returned as head coach back to the team. In the first season in the NBA league could build 30 of 50 games to be won.

Kasib Powell was elected in the 2007/ 08 season to the NBA D -League Most Valuable Player.

On June 10, 2013, the Skyforce and the Miami Heat announced that the Skyforce from the 2013-2014 season of the Miami Heat franchise will be. This is also the logo according to the colors of the Miami Heat has been adjusted.
