Slobodan Živojinović

Slobodan Živojinović ( born July 23, 1963 in Belgrade ) is a former Yugoslav tennis player. In 1986, he led the tennis world rankings in the men's doubles.

Life

Živojinović was several Yugoslavian youth champion. He won the 1981 Junior title of the Italian Open in the same year and was a professional tennis player. In 1984, he reached his first quarter-final on the ATP World Tour in Kitzbuehel. The following year, he reached the final of the ATP tournament of Nancy and the Challenger tournament in Thessaloniki. In addition, he was in the semifinals of the Queen 's Club Championships, and won at the side of Libor Pimek in Boston his first ATP doubles title. In 1986, he finally won his first of two individual titles during his career, he won also eight doubles titles. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1987 with position 19 in the singles and in 1986 with position one in doubles.

His best individual results in Grand Slam tournaments were the semi-finals at the Australian Open in 1985 and Wimbledon in 1986. Alongside Andrés Gómez he won the 1986 U.S. Open.

Živojinović played 1981-1992 39 single and 23 double games for the Yugoslav Davis Cup team. His greatest successes with the team were the semi-finals in the World Group in 1988 and 1991. During the 0-5 semi-final defeat against Germany, he lost both his singles match against Boris Becker and Eric Jelen, and the double lot on the side of Goran Ivanisevic. Also, in the 0-5 semi-final defeat against France he won neither the individual nor his double game. In 1988 he went to Yugoslavia at the Olympic Summer Games in 1988 in singles and in doubles. In individual he failed in the second round to Guy Forget, with his doubles partner Goran Ivanisevic he came up before the quarter-finals, where they lost to later Silbermedaillisten Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez Vicario of Spain.

Živojinović is married since 1991 to his second wife with the singer Lepa Brena. In addition to a son from his first marriage Živojinović has two other sons with Brena. In November 2000, their combined, then eight- year-old son Stefan was kidnapped and released five days later after paying a ransom again. The police could catch the perpetrators in the context of police action Sablja 2003.
