Sol C. Siegel

Sol C. Siegel ( born March 30, 1903 in New York City; † December 29, 1982 in Los Angeles ) was an American film producer.

Life

After graduating from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Sol C. Siegel started his career as a reporter at the New York Herald Tribune and then worked as a sales manager of record company American Record Corporation. In 1934 he went to Hollywood, where from 1936 he worked for the independent production company Republic Pictures B- movies, including several Western with Gene Autry and John Wayne, produced. In 1940 he left Republic and got a contract with Paramount Pictures. In 1947 he moved to 20th Century Fox, where he worked as a producer with film comedies such as I Was a Male War Bride ( I Was a Male War Bride, 1949), Honey, I 'm going under ( Monkey Business, 1952) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ( Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, 1953) was able to record great success. In 1955 he received an Oscar nomination in the category Best Film for Jean Negulescos Three Coins in the Fountain ( Three Coins in the Fountain ).

In 1956 he was hired by MGM, where he was appointed vice-president two years later. In the 1960s, he started his own business and worked from then as an independent producer. By 1968, Siegel produced nearly 100 feature films. He died in 1982 at the age of 79 in Los Angeles and was buried at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City.
