Songs for the Deaf is the third studio album by Californian rock band Queens of the Stone Age. It was recorded from March to June in 2002 in various studios in California and was released in August 2002.

Concept album

Songs for the Deaf is a concept album that will take the listener on a journey from Los Angeles in the Mojave Desert. For example, between tracks Einspieler to hear from local radio stations, which are on this route. The concept is also reflected in the artwork; so is in the unfolded booklet of the cover a picture of the interior of a car.

Reviews

The album was highly praised by music critics and was commercially successful.

For example, laut.de gave five out of five full credit and stated: ". A masterpiece of contemporary adrenaline Rocks ". Also Plattentests.de gave the album ten out of ten full points. Another positive review Allmusic awarded five out of five.

Furthermore reached Songs for the Deaf in a reader poll of the German magazine Visions, in which the 150 albums were sought for eternity, ranked second behind Nevermind by Nirvana.
