Sonntag, Austria

Sunday is a municipality in the district of Bludenz in Vorarlberg, Austria with 690 inhabitants (December 31, 2013). The place belongs to the Great Walser Valley.

Geography

Sunday is the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, the district of Bludenz to 888 meters. 27.4 % of the area is forested, 43 % of the area Alps. At Sunday heard the village book ground. The municipality is located in the Great Walser Valley Biosphere Reserve.

History

The first settlers in the area from Sunday were in the 14th century Walser, who had immigrated from the area that is now the Swiss canton of Valais.

The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau). No later than 1457 a parish was established in Tuesday. Due to its hillside location, the place is always threatened by avalanches. Severe damage occurred in the years 1526, 1689, 1731, 1806 and 1954.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was created in 1967 after a design by the artist and Schrunser heraldist Konrad Honold. The illustrated on the sign erected Capricorn reminds us of the settlement by the Walser ( Walser character of the free dating from 1408 ).

Policy

The municipal council consists of 12 members. The 2010 election was not by party lists, but by a majority vote. Mayor is Franz -Ferdinand Türtscher (ÖVP ) of beech floor.
