Sorin Cârțu

Sorin Cârţu ( born November 12, 1955 in Cornu ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach.

Career as a player

After visiting the Colegiul Naţional Carol I in Craiova striker Cârţu had the most success in the years 1981 to 1983, when he was Universitatea Craiova for each with 19 goals twice the second best scorer of the season Divizia A.

Career as a coach

At the beginning of the 1988/89 season was Cârţu as successor by Gheorghe Constantin coach his home club, with which he achieved the double in the 1990/1991 season. In the summer of 1992, parted ways. In spring 1993, he was appointed as successor by Marian Bondrea coach of local rivals Electro Craiova, who at the time also played in Divizia A. After failing to qualify for the UEFA Cup, his contract was not renewed.

After he had trained at the end of the season 1994/95 Rapid Bucharest, but the club could not run in the UEFA Cup, Cârţu returned to the beginning of the 1995/96 season to Uni Craiova and managed to qualify for the Intertoto Cup. After a shaky start in the following season he was already dismissed in August 1996.

From 1999 to 2002 was Cârţu coach of FC Extensive Craiova before he hired again in the fall of 2002 at University of Craiova. After a placement in the midfield at the end of the 2002/03 season, he announced his contract on 29 September 2003. During the winter break 2003/ 04 he was manager of Oţelul Galaţi and led the club to the Cup final, where he lost to champion Dinamo Bucharest and thereby could qualify for the UEFA Cup. During the winter break of 2004/ 05 he moved to FC Arges Pitesti. After relegation in 2005 the following season was released after more than a year just before the end.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season was Cârţu FCU Politehnica Timişoara head coach of. After only twelve games he resigned in October 2006 and was replaced by Alin Artimon. A few weeks engaged him league rival FC Naţional Bucharest to prevent the transition into the Divizia B. In view of the impending descent he was released in April 2007. On 10 October 2007 it took Dacia Mioveni as successor by Florin Marin, but he could not avoid relegation at the end of the season.

In September 2008 Cârţu took the first division Pandurii Târgu Jiu, which he coached until October 2009, when he was replaced by Liviu Ciobotariu. In March 2010, he released himself Ciobotariu turn off, however, was on 12 May 2010, with two games left in the season, dismissed. Pandurii managed in the league, if only because of the unavoidable descent from International Curtea de Arges. As of 12 September 2010 he coached the Romanian champions CFR Cluj. On March 7, 2011, he broke from Marius Lăcătuş as coach of Steaua Bucharest. May 5, 2011 Cârţu resigned and was replaced by Cosmin Olăroiu, with the Steaua on 25 May 2011 won the final of the Romanian Cup. In December 2011, an engagement with the Kazakh first division side FK Taras failed due to those required by Cârţu payment arrangements.

On April 17, 2012 Cârţu was technical adviser to the second division Alro Slatina. Coinciding with his former team-mate Mircea Irimescu was engaged as head coach, but before the first joint championship game 21 April 2012 suffered a myocardial infarction and was 11 May 2012 replaced by Adrian Popescu, another old companion of Universitatea Craiova. As has been missed in the 2011/12 season promotion to the Liga 1 and Alro then leave the club with local rivals FC Olt Slatina merged, had Cârţu and Popescu in July 2012.

On April 22, 2013 signed him and his two co- coach Mircea Adrian Popescu Irimescu and the relegation threatened Erstligist CSMS Iaşi. The coaching team was unable to secure the league and was the beginning of June 2013 released.
