Course

The South Gippsland Highway branches off from the Princes Highway in Dandenong (ALT -1) to the southeast. At first he has no number ( according to some sources also state road 180 ( S180 ) to the Western Port Highway), but is at the intersection with Greens Road to State Road 12 (S12). At the Pound Road he loses again and this number is up to the intersection with the Western Port Highway ( M780 ) not re- numbered. From there he gets the number M420 and continues on his way to the southeast to the Western Port and at its north-eastern coast along on. In this area, the road is widened to four lanes and has a center strip.

Approx. 3 km south of Lang Lang, he continued his way to the southeast as the A440, while the Bass Highway ( A420 ) to the south, continues along the east coast of Western Port. The South Gippsland Highway is still four lanes, but without markings. About Korumburra and Leongatha where the Bass Highway / Strzelecki Highway ( B460 ) crosses, he continues to Foster at the Corner inland from where the Wilsons Promontory and its National Park are accessible. In Foster the South Gippsland Highway go east and leads to Alberton where he turns to the north and soon after reached Yarram.

Shortly after Yarram flows from the north of the Hyland Highway and South Gippsland Highway continues its way to the northeast, parallel to the coast, continued. He eventually ends up in Sale, where he rejoins the Princes Highway
