Sovetsk, Kirov Oblast
Sowetsk (Russian Советск ) is a town in Kirov Oblast (Russia) with 16 598 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 140 km south of the Oblasthauptstadt Kirov near the mouth of the Pischma in the Vyatka, a right tributary of the Kama.
Sowetsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
The place was built in 1594 ( according to other sources 1609) in the settlement area of the Mari under the name Kukarka. In 1918 he received the present name the status of an urban-type settlement and 1937 city law.
