Vyatskiye Polyany
Vyatskie Polyany (Russian Вятские Поляны ) is a town in Kirov Oblast (Russia) with 35 162 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 280 km southeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Kirov at the Vyatka, a right tributary of the Kama.
Vyatskie Polyany is subordinated administratively directly as a city district of oblast and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
Already in the mid-16th century existed in place of the present town of the Udmurt village Oschtorma - Bodnja. The Russian village Vyatskie Polyany (Russian for Vyatka clearings ) was founded in 1596 by the Russian Orthodox Rozhdestvensky Monastery, which existed until 1764.
1938, the place the status of an urban-type settlement and 1942 city law.
