Yaransk

Yaransk (Russian Яранск ) is a town in Kirov Oblast (Russia) with 17,253 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 250 km southwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Kirov at the river Jaran in the river system of the Kama.

Yaransk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Yaransk was created in 1584 as a Russian Ostrog with these surrounding settlement on the border of the settlement area of ​​Mari and received in 1780 as an administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ) city charter.
