Stalag version

The Stalag Riddim is one of the most famous riddims of reggae music. A total of 293 official songs were sung or toasted on this riddim. In addition, there are several remixes and unofficial versions. Many well-known reggae and dancehall artists have one or even several songs released so that, inter alia, Barrington Levy, Cocoa Tea, Buju Banton and Yellowman.

Description

The instrumental is a slow minimal dub- held piece. Clocking is a melody of a double bass. The melody is accompanied by a wet and wooden acting drums. In addition, the whole is accompanied by a not constantly present, a dominant melody and several accompanying saxophones. This tune also initiates the intro. In the many existing versions partly supported by additional instruments, melodies and sounds used.

History

The original was produced in 1973 by Winston Riley. In the same year the first song appeared on the riddim with the name of " Stalag 17" by the band Techniques on the same label. In the seventies, only two other songs appeared in the years 1975 and 1976. One of them was the single " Jim Squashey " by Big Youth. 1980 and 1982 published three songs and 1983, two songs by famous artists such as Ranking Joe and Yellowman. As of 1984, the Riddim gained a great popularity. Appear 50 official versions between 1984 and 1986. Of these, 36 alone in 1985. A Song of them is a jazz version, produced by Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser, with the name " Sax Excursion ". After a year without releases and only two in 1988, two years eleven versions on different labels from different artists appear on it, inter alia, of Tenor Saw, Mad Cobra and Shabba Ranks. Until 1995, each year several singles appear on this riddim. The artist Cocoa Tea released in 1994 equal to three songs on the Stalag Riddim. After 1996 no song has been released, the popularity of riddims from again. However, it continued to appear sporadically songs up in 2000 on various labels again a total of 31 pieces were published. Including songs like " Nightfall" by Marcia Griffiths, " Azanido " by Sizzla and "Give Thanks" by Junior Reid. In recent years up to 2010 publications have appeared again and again instead of individual years, as more. last published in 2010 an album on the label jukebox with 12 new songs by various artists.
