Stéphane Le Foll

Stéphane Le Foll ( born February 9, 1960 in Le Mans) is a French politician of the Socialist Party PS and a member of the European Parliament. Since May 16, 2012, he is French Minister for Agriculture.

Le Foll studied economics and graduated with a Diplôme d' études approfondies (1988) and a Diploma in Professional spécialisé at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (1993 ) from. From 1987 to 1991 he was a teacher for the subject of economy in Rouillon and in La Ferté -Bernard, and gave courses at the University of Nantes.

From 1983 to 1995 Le Foll was a member of the City Council of Longnes; 2002 to 2004 he sat on the city council of Le Mans and was vice president of the Metropolitan Region of Le Mans. From 1997 to 2008, he also headed the Cabinet of François Hollande, the leader of the Parti Socialiste. In November 2008 he was elected Chairman of the PS in the department of Sarthe.

In the 2004 European elections, Le Foll was elected to the European Parliament, to which he listened to until 15 May 2012. He was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and, since the 2009 European elections, Deputy Chairman of the Socialist Group S & D.

In the French parliamentary elections in 2007, ran Le Foll, however, had already in the first round against his rival candidate of the conservative UMP, the future Prime Minister, François Fillon, to admit defeat. In the French parliamentary elections in 2012 Le Foll won a mandate in the department of Sarthe, but the rest because of his activities as Minister for Agriculture and Food in the Cabinet Ayrault II.
