Steve Omischl

Steve Omischl ( born November 16, 1978 in North Bay, Ontario ) is a Canadian freestyle skier. He specializes in the discipline Aerials ( jumping). As a world champion and two-time overall World Cup winner, he is one of the world's most successful athletes.

Career

Omischl began at the age of 15 years with the freestyle jumping. His debut in the freestyle skiing World Cup he had in Whistler, where he immediately jumped to second place on 4 December 1999. With four other top-10 results in the 1999/2000 season he established himself among the world leaders and received by the International Ski Federation FIS Rookie of the Year award. In the 2000 /01 season he achieved several podiums, a victory failed to materialize, as in the 2001/ 02 season. The 2001 World Championships he finished seventh, the 2002 Winter Olympics in eleventh. On September 8, 2002 Omischl succeeded in Australia Mount Buller 's first victory in a World Cup competition, another victory was followed by the completion of the 2002/03 season, which was enough for 2nd place in the discipline standings. In the 2003 World Cup in Deer Valley, he won a bronze medal.

The 2003/04 season dominated Omischl almost at will: He chose six of the twelve World Cup competition for himself and was three times runner-up. He won not only superior to the discipline standings, but also became the overall World Cup winner. In the season 2004/ 05 Omischl to win a World Cup competition, he also won at the 2005 World Championships in Ruka the gold medal. At the Canadian Championships this year, he showed the world's first athlete a triple backflip with four screws ( full- full- double full ).

At the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 Omischl could not withstand the high pressure of expectation; in qualifying he was only 20, and missed so much the final of the top twelve. Ten days later he redeemed herself with another World Cup victory. Two more World Cup victories get him in the season 2006/ 07, which in turn was enough for the victory in the discipline standings. Added to this was winning the bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships in Madonna di Campiglio. As already four years earlier Omischl was hard to beat in the 2007/ 08 season. Of the nine discharged World Cup competition, winning six, depending once he finished second and third. He secured by a large margin the discipline standings and also the overall World Cup.

In the 2008 /09 season Omischl won two World Cup competitions for themselves, at the 2009 World Championships in Inawashiro he had to close the American Ryan St. Onge admit defeat and won the silver medal.

Omischl is athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play.
