Sutrieu

Sutrieu is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Sutrieu is located on 620 m above sea level. Level, about 21 kilometers north of the town of Belley (air line). The farming village extends in the southeastern Bugey, a scenic location on the flat west slope of Séran, in the valley of the Valromey, at the eastern foot of the plan agate.

The area of ​​19.05 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Valromey. The Valromey forms a broad valley between two high, oriented in north-south direction Jura ridges. The eastern municipal boundary runs along the Séran which flows partly in an open Talniederung, partly dug into the gorge-like plateau, through the Valromey south. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the plateau of Fitignieu and the subsequent gently rising, agricultural slope of Sutrieu. To the west it borders on a densely wooded escarpment, which leads on to the summit of the Col de la live and the crest of the plan agate. At this altitude is 1204 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Sutrieu.

To Sutrieu addition to the actual site includes several different villages, hamlets and farmsteads, namely:

  • Fitignieu (550 m above sea level. M. ) on a plateau west of Séran
  • Fossieu (600 m above sea level. M. ) on the west slope of the Séran
  • Mongonod (615 m above sea level. M. ) at the eastern foot of the plan agate
  • Cossonod (640 m above sea level. M. ) on a ridge at the eastern foot of the plan agate
  • Charancin (680 m above sea level. M. ) on Südostfuß of plan agate
  • Saint- Maurice ( 715 m above sea level. M. ) on the climb to the Col de la live

Neighboring communities of Sutrieu are Lompnieu in the north, Champagne -en- Valromey in the east, Belmont to the south and Luthézieu Thézillieu and Cormaranche -en- Bugey in the West.

History

Already in the year 875 Sutrieu is first mentioned when the village and its surroundings over went to the monastery of Tournus. The neighboring villages Fitignieu and Charancin appear in the 14th century for the first time in the documents, only the parish of Saint- Maurice in Charancin is mentioned as early as 1135. In the Middle Ages Sutrieu belonged to the rule Valromey, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon reached the village in 1601 to France. The hamlet of Saint- Maurice in 1944 by German troops put on fire. Effective on January 1, 1974, the previously independent municipalities Fitignieu and Charancin were fused with Sutrieu.

Attractions

The parish church of Sutrieu was built in Gothic style and completely restored in 1968. In Charancin is a Gothic chapel country. The Church of Fitignieu shows a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Just outside of Saint- Maurice is the chapel of Saint- Maurice -de- Charancin from the 12th century, escaped by their offbeat location of the destruction of 1944. In the different villages many traditional farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.

Population

With 241 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Sutrieu one of the small communities in the department of Ain. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century, remained the population since the 1980s to almost constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Sutrieu was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has changed thanks to the lovely position into a residential community. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Arte Mare by Valromey after Brénod. Further road links exist with Lilignod, Passin and over the Col de la live with Thézillieu.
