Geography

Geographical Location

Täferrot is in the upper Leintal at the mouth of the red in the Flax, between Welzheimer forest and Frick Hofer height, about 7 km northeast of Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Ruppertshofen and Eschach, to the east by Goeggingen and Leinzell, on the southeast by Iggingen, to the south by the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd and to the west by Durlangen.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the main town located in the Leintal Täferrot, the two hamlets situated on high ground Tierhaupten and Utzstetten and the farms Buchhof, Koppenkreut and Rehn mill and the village Mähderschafhaus dialed.

History

Täferrot has arisen for Stauferzeit on deforested soil. Mentioned in 1293 as a Roth, the village was first mentioned in 1298 Afrenrot. At this time the village belonged to the lords of the vineyard, the later Lords of Rechenberg. This was sold in 1357, the right of patronage and the parish goods to the monastery of Lorch.

1560, after the Reformation, the first school was established in the place; it was housed in the Town Hall. In 1842 the newly built city hall classrooms were housed. 1818 was one of the few Täferrot Altwürttembergischen places that were assigned to the new upper office Gmünd, starting in 1934 the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd. In 1973 the congregation to new Ostalb.

Name and Coat of Arms

The place is named after the church patron St. Afra. The place name has evolved over time from Afrenrot about Dafrenrot and Tefferrot ( 1525) to Täferrot.

The coat of arms shows on a red background at the top of a stylized St. Afra in the midst of flames, as she is said to have suffered death by fire. Below the confluence of the Red and flax is symbolically represented in a symmetrical shape in white.

Religions

As in Württemberg, the Reformation was introduced in the 16th century, also Täferrot got the new Lutheran denomination. Today belongs to the St. Afra 's Church of the Lutheran church. The few Catholics are served by Durlangen and Leinzell from.

Policy

The municipality is a member of the local government association Swabian Forest, headquartered in Mutlangen. The council consists of eight citizens and the mayor.

Featured Buildings

  • The present Protestant St. Afra 's Church was built in 1491. The tower is older and dates from an earlier church.
