Team Vorarlberg

The Team Vorarlberg is an Austrian cycling team with status as a Continental team. From 2006 until June 2010 started the team as a Professional Continental team Team to race in the UCI Europe Tour and the UCI ProTour and UCI World Tour. The seat of the team is in Rankweil.

The team was known as Team Volksbank after since founding the People's Bank was the main sponsor and namesake, but then withdrew with the end of 2008 season from cycling sponsorship.

Team History

Beginnings (1999 to 2005)

The team was founded in 1999 under the name of Team Volksbank- Colnago as an elite team and played in the early days primarily national race in Austria. Here sat the team especially on young drivers from the U23 area, including the former mountain bike world champion Michael Rasmussen, later winner of the dotted jerseys of the 2005 Tour de France and Tour de France 2006.

In 2002, the team made under the leadership of twin brothers Thomas and John Kofler step for GS3 team, which corresponds to the current status of a Continental team. Starting this season, the team was called the Volksbank- Ideal under which it celebrated internationally first notable successes and was first known to a wider audience outside of Austria. The first season as a semi - professional team ended with 35 Top 10 finishes, including eight wins. Best Merits of the young men were winning the mountain and points classification of the Tour of Austria.

2003 strengthened the team with legionaries from neighboring countries. So wore the two Swiss Pascal Hungerbühler and Jean Nuttli, could the Brandenburg Tour to decide for themselves, as well as Slovenia's Jure Golcer, second in the overall standings of the Tour of Austria, instrumental to the rise of Team Volksbank at. 2004 joined the German René Weissinger the team that surprised at the Tour of Bavaria with the fourth overall. First Austrian professional team ( 2006-2008 )

Away from the race track saw the team a turbulent start to the race year after former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich at a press conference at which he announced his retirement from cycling, a new activity at the management level of the Team Volksbank announced. As the suspicion against Jan Ullrich hardened in the Spanish doping scandal, the team responded and put the commitment of Ullrich on ice.

In addition to one of four ProTour wildcards for the Germany tour in 2007 the team was also the only wild card for the Tour de Suisse, in which Florian Stalder the sprint was won by. Gerrit Glomser celebrated on the 6th stage of the Tour of Austria in this year's first stage win of the team with the home tour.

On 10 June 2008, the team was after a three month trial period, confirmed as an official member of the "Movement for a credible cycling ", MPCC. For the most success this season Olaf Pollack provided with a stage win in the Tour of Bavaria.

Era after People's Bank (2009 to 2010)

After the many years a main sponsor of the team, the Austrian Volksbank, for the 2009 season announced the withdrawal from the cycling sponsorship, the team Vorarlberg - Corratec went first without main sponsor under the name Team at the start. The team was ever invited this year as the first Austrian team to the Tour of Flanders. The German sprinter Sebastian Siedler won for the team at the Tour of Turkey and the Tour of Denmark ever a stage.

On 12 June 2010, the UCI announced its withdrawing Professional Continental license of the team. Officially called the UCI for no reasons. The team said later in a press release of " inconsistencies in the type of employment some of the drivers ." Rumors about financial problems were confirmed neither by the UCI nor by the team.

On 1 July, the team was equipped only with a Continental license. Some of the performers such as Andreas Dietziker, Hubert Schwab or René Haselbacher initially signed a new contract with the now third-rate team. Ex-pro Harald Morscher, previously co-owner of the team, officially took over the management.

In the second half of the season Josef Benetseder won for the team the mountains classification in the Tour of Austria and took in September for the first time in team history the singles title in the Austrian Bundesliga wheel, Tchibo Top Rad league.

Restart as Continental Team (2011 to present)

For the 2011 season the team Vorarlberg solved as it was now officially called No license as a Professional Continental team, and started the year first time since 2005 as a Continental team. As the largest team success in the team was able to score the Tchibo Top Rad League won for the first time in team history a year after Benet Eder's singles title. At the end of the season, Harald Morscher withdrew from the team, and Thomas Kofler again took over the role of team manager.
