The Actress

Theater fever is an American feature film, has the director George Cukor in 1953 staged for MGM. The screenplay for the actor drama wrote Ruth Gordon for her stage play Years Ago from the year 1946.

Action

The scene is New England, the time, the early 20th century. After a visit to the theater 17-year -old student Ruth Gordon Jones dreams of becoming an actress. The successful actress Hazel Dawn, who writes a fan letter, she encouraged. She applies at a major Boston theater manager, but she rejects. Parents also face Ruth's career aspirations against first. The screenplay was based on Ruth Gordon's autobiographical stage play Years Ago, which was played on Broadway from December 3, 1946 to May 31, 1947. The main roles in the stage version had Patricia Kirkland, Fredric March, Florence Eldridge and Richard Simon played. For the lead role of the film, the 24 -year-old British actress Jean Simmons was chosen, which had for her performance in Hamlet ( 1948) Oscar nomination and for The Dauphin and The Robe (both 1953) received an NBR Award. For Spencer Tracy theater fever was after Father of the Bride (1950) and A Godsend (1951, both with Elizabeth Taylor), the third film in which he appeared as a loving father of a full-fledged young woman, and cooperation with Simmons was very harmonious.
