Picnic in pajamas ( Original: The Pajama Game ) is an American film adaptation of the musical of the same name with Doris Day in the title role in 1957 as literary model for the musical and film of the novel served 7 ½ Cents by Richard Bissell, who is also on the. development of the screenplay was involved. Action

Sid Sorokin is the new manager of a pajama factory in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There he soon falls in love with the handsome worker Babe Williams, he comes closer at a picnic operation. Unfortunately, Babe is a member of the Workers' Union, which calls for a wage increase of 7 ½ cents per hour. As the manager of the factory is not willing to pay higher wages, creating a labor dispute, in which Sid and Babe relentlessly confront the opposing fronts.

Although the management, the workforce continues with layoffs under pressure to respond to the workers to go on strike and sabotage the production. When Sid discovers that Babe intentionally a machine out of service, he is forced to let them go. However, when he finds out that the wage increase was decided by the Board several months ago and the manager puts the money into his own pocket, Sid ensures that the workers finally get their raise. As Babe finds out, she returns to him.

Background

For the film, almost the entire original cast of the musical The Pajama Game was taken, the very successful run on Broadway in 1954. Notable exception was Janis Paige, whose role was played in the film by Doris Day.

The film was premiered at New York's Radio City Music Hall on August 29, 1957. In Germany picnic came in pajamas on 7 March 1958 in the cinemas.

At the ceremony for the Laurel Awards 1958 John Raitt took third place in the category Best Actor in a Musical. In addition, the film was nominated for Best Musical. Furthermore, George Abbott and Richard Bissell received for their screenplay nominated for the prize of the Writers Guild of America.
