Thief River Falls, also called Thief River or TRF as, is a city ( with a status of "City" ) and the administrative seat of Pennington County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, Thief River Falls had 8573 inhabitants.

Geography

Thief River Falls is located in northwestern Minnesota, 82.7 km north east of Grand Forks, North Dakota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 13 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers of land and 1 square miles of water. The town lies at the mouth of Thief River into the Red Lake River, a right tributary of the Red River of the North.

Neighboring towns of Thief River Falls are Holt (19,5 km to the north ), Goodridge (30,9 km east) and St. Hilaire (12,4 km to the south ).

The nearest big cities are Winnipeg in the Canadian province of Manitoba (227 km north-northwest ), Duluth Lake Superior ( 392 km east-southeast ), Minneapolis ( 473 km southeast) and Fargo, North Dakota (181 km south-southwest ).
