Tholen

( Listen? / I ) Tholen is an island and municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland and consists of two peninsulas connected Tholen and Sint Philips country.

Customs station

The name Tholen reminiscent of the former customs post. Time duty was payable for entering the Eendracht and the Striene.

Location

The municipality of Tholen is connected to the south with Zuid- Beveland on the Oesterdam and in the north with Goeree -Overflakkee and Schouwen- Duiveland over the Philipsdam and Grevelingendam. East of the village there is the Scheldt - Rhine Canal.

Municipality reforms

In 1971 the territory of the peninsula of Tholen was combined to form a community. The existing communities Tholen, Oud- Vossemeer, Poortvliet, Scherpenisse, Sint- Anna country Sint Maartensdijk and Stavenisse were lifted.

In a second step, the restructuring community Sint- Philips country in 1995 amalgamated with Tholen.
