Triumph TR5

The Triumph TR5 was produced from 1967 to 1969 Roadster of the British car manufacturer Triumph of Coventry. From his 2947 vehicles were built in 15 months.

Formation

The TR5 was very similar to its predecessor, the TR4 and TR4A. The design developed the Turin designer Giovanni Michelotti. Externally it differed only by an S-shaped curved exhaust pipes (double tube), wider side moldings, a slightly modified radiator grille as well as other types of emblems. The biggest difference was under the hood: the TR5 PI ( petrol injection) had a 2.5 liter in-line six-cylinder engine with a mechanical fuel injection intake manifold of Lucas Industries, the (105 kW) exhibited a performance of 143 hp. This enabled an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 189 km / h The same engine was also in the sequel, the TR6 installed.

The base price was 1968 in the UK for the model with soft top 1260 pounds sterling (£) and £ 1,255 for the Hardtopmodell. For £ 60 an overdrive was optional. A so-called " small cover " ( cover ) for the unfolded folding roof could be ordered for £ 13.

The TR250

Due to the built-in manifold injection of TR5 no longer met the U.S. emission regulations. Therefore, the TR5 was modified to TR250 for the U.S. market. This now had an engine with two Stromberg carburettors. He made 77 kW and required for acceleration to 100 km / h 10.6 sec Top speed was 172 km / h The TR250 sold significantly better than the TR5. From him 8484 copies were sold.
