Trunk Line

The Hovedbane ( German main line ) is Norway's first railway, leading from Oslo to Eidsvoll.

The Norsk Hoved - Jernbane built the railway line between Oslo and Eidsvoll on Lørenskog and Dal (not to be confused with the extending approximately parallel Gardermobanen ). This was Norway's first public railway line, which was put into operation on 1 September 1854. Formally, the track was to March 4, 1926 a private railway. On this date, NHJ was as district Oslo part of Norges Statsbaner.

The construction of the line began on August 8, 1851 with an initial workforce of about 350 workers, until December 1851, the number of workers was increased to 1400.

In combination with the set up on the Mjøsa steamboat traffic, the railway revolutionized the market in Germany.

More recently, the Hovedbane lost through traffic after the opening of Romeriksporten.

The route is 68 km long and was electrified in 1956.

The most important stations along the Hovedbane are Bryn, Strømmen, Lillestrøm, Jessheim and Eidsvoll.
