Sedrun

Sedrun ( [ tuɪə̯tʃ ]? / I, German Tavetsch ) is a municipality in the district Surselva the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Cadi at the Anterior Rhine, extending from the Oberalp Pass to outside Bugnei, forms the westernmost part of the canton of Grisons, bordering the cantons of Uri and Ticino.

Tujetsch includes the following eleven fractions ( order down the valley ): Tschamut, Selva, Dieni, Rueras, Zarcuns, Camischolas, Gonda, Sedrun, Bugnei, Surrein, Cavorgia.

The Toma (2345 m above sea level) is considered the source of the Anterior Rhine ( rät. clean anteriur ). From the glaciers in the municipality of reaching Maighels glacier is the largest.

The municipal area is the 2310 meter high Maighelshütte.

The community leads the coat of arms Pontaningen family. Abbot Peter of Pontaningen Siegler was the first of the Federal Charter of the Upper or Grey League.

History

Many of the Indicative megalithic sites and stones along the old pack-mule track indicate that the pass transitions of Sedrun were already in prehistoric times is important. The wooded valley was cleared in the 8th century after the founding of the monastery Disentis and it created far-flung Hofsiedlungen. In the 12th century Walser wandered over the Oberalp Pass and settled in the upper Sedrun. Only in the 18th century, the mountain farmers moved gradually down into the valley and formed individual villages. Sedrun, where the parish church was consecrated in 1205, became the chief town of the Sedrun. A village Sedrun has never existed.

From the Tujetsch comes the smallest sheep breed in Switzerland, the Tavetscher sheep. The 1954 Lange Erlen Animal Park in Basel extinct animals resembled the small, rugged sheep of the Neolithic period, in which the females were horned. Since 1984 back bred by the Foundation ProSpecieRara tavetscherähnliche sheep with not crossed stocks from Vrin and the Medels.

Population

The population speaks the local dialect of Romansch, the Tuatschin. Written language is the idiom Sursilvan.

Economy

The Alpine grazing floor space of 5650 ha, 700 ha of meadows and fields and 1351 ha of forest are handled by 70 employees in 34 companies in the agriculture and forestry. 211 people are employed in 27 industrial and commercial enterprises and 374 employees in 78 service industries in the tourism sector (as of 2002).

The municipal area of Sedrun the two reservoirs Lai Lai Nalps and lie there as Curnera. The water rates are an important source of income for the community.

Tourism

One of the main sources of income of the population forms the winter and summer tourism. The systematic opening up of the ski area began in 1962 with the construction of ski lifts Dieni - Milez.

The most important mountain passes on foot are the Bornengo Passo ( 2631 m) to Airolo, the Lolenpass ( 2399 m) and Maighelspass ( 2420) to Andermatt and the Chrüzlipass ( 2347 m) to Bristen. The SAC huts Badu, Maighels, Etzli, Cavardiras and Cadlimo can serve as accommodation for the hiking and mountain climbing.

The Senda Sursilvana, a long distance footpath along the young Rhine leads from the Oberalp Pass ago by the Sedrun in the direction of Chur.

Traffic

The Furka -Oberalp -Bahn, since 2003 Matterhorn -Gotthard Railway, 1925 was the first time traveled on the total distance from Brig to Disentis. The web is the only all-weather connection to the west, the road over the Oberalp Pass is closed in winter.

The canton of Grisons, the Surselva region and the municipality of Tujetsch have decided on 13 September 2007 not to implement the project Porta Alpina. The Foundation Porta Alpina now intends to create the Sedrun station in the new NEAT Gotthard tunnel on a private basis.
