The British general election, 1959 took place on 8 October 1959. In the elections of the deputies of the lower house (House of Commons ) were redetermined.

Electoral system

Was chosen according to the simple majority system. A restrictive clause did not exist.

Election result

The Conservative Party took 46.6 percent an almost identical result as compared to the previous general election of 1955. This enabled it to defend their absolute majority. The Labour Party suffered substantial losses. Was able to win the most votes, the Liberal Party.
