Resolution 1749 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the situation in the region of the African Great Lakes, adopted unanimously on 28 March 2007 at its 5650th meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

The Security Council based its decision on the resolutions 918 (1994), 1005 (1995), 1011 (1995), 1013 (1995), 1053 (1996), and 1161 (1998) and also presented the report of the Committee on Rwanda from December 28, 2006 (document S/2006/1049 ) basis, which was formed by Resolution 918.

The body was responding to the letter from the Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations dated 2 March 2007 ( document S/2007/121 ), which has called for an end to the measures referred to in paragraph 11 of resolution 1011 ( 1995). This had established that the Member States had the committee deliveries of weapons and similar material Report on Rwanda and the Government of Rwanda highlight such deliveries, register and log had.

The desire of Rwanda was based on the fact that the embargo was directed against the government, which ruled in Rwanda at the time of the adoption of resolution 918 and had been deposed in 1994. The 918 Committee had noted in 1996 that monitoring of weapons deliveries was no longer required, but it until 2006 because of disagreements was not able to come to an agreement. As of 1 September 2006, the Security Council has repealed the provisions of paragraph 13 of resolution 918 (1994).

However, the Security Council demanded continue by all Member States to cooperate with the committees that have been established by Resolution 918, and 1533 ( 2004), and the expert group, whose mandates had been renewed by resolution 1698 (2006). He stressed the importance of non-delivery of weapons and similar material to illegal armed groups.

The Panel welcomed the signing of the pact on security, stability and development in the region of the Great Lakes 15 December 2006 and urged the signatory States to ratify this quickly and implement it.

Under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the Security Council the measures referred to in paragraph 11 of resolution decided to end 1011 ( 1995) with immediate effect.
