United Nations Security Council Resolution 1742

Resolution 1742 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, adopted unanimously on 15 February 2007 at its 5630th meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

With the resolution the Security Council extended the mandate of the Mission de l' Organisation des Nations Unies en République Démocratique du Congo (MONUC ), which was due to expire on 15 February 2007, for two months, until 15 April 2007.

The Security Council had all the relevant resolutions basis for its decision and the letter of the Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations (document S/2007/17 ). He considers the situation in the country continues to be a danger to international peace and security in the region.

Under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the Security Council extended the mandate of MONUC, as contained in resolutions 1565 (2004), 1592 (2005), 1596 (2005), 1621 (2005), 1635 (2005) and 1736 (2006) had been fixed.

At the same time, the Security Council requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the latest on March 15 to report to the Security Council a report on his consultations with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and to make suggestions on the future shape of the MONUC mission.
