United Nations Security Council Resolution 1748

Resolution 1748 of the UN Security Council is a resolution on the situation in the Middle East, adopted unanimously on 27 March 2007 at its 5648 session., The United Nations Security Council.

With the resolution of the Security Council expressed its will, investigate the circumstances of the attack on the convoy of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al -Hariri, in which al -Hariri and 22 others were killed and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Security Council appealed to all relevant resolutions, in particular resolutions 1636 (2005), 1644 (2005), 1664 (2006) and 1686 (2006), as well as to Resolutions 1373 (2001) and 1566 (2004) and reiterated his condemnation of the terrorist attack of 14 February 2007 on two buses in Ain Alaq.

The Panel had the seventh report of the Commission of Inquiry (document S/2007/150 ) based on his decision and of the letter of the Prime Minister of Lebanon to the Secretary General of the United Nations of 21 February 2007 (document S/2007/159, annex) knowledge taken. The head of the UN International Independent Investigation Commission ( IIIC), the Belgian Serge Brammertz, had informed the Security Council at a briefing that its investigations are unlikely to be completed by 15 June 2007 and Prime Minister Fouad Siniora had therefore proposed an extension of the mandate for one year.

With the adoption of the resolution, the mandate of the IIIC was extended for one year until 15 June 2008. However, it allows a premature termination of the mandate, if the IIIC the full implementation of their mission reports. The Commission was asked to report every four months on the progress of the investigation.
