History

The village was founded in the wake of re- settlements after completion of the Reconquista and the consolidation of independence in 1139 the Kingdom of Portugal. He was first known as Paços and received its present name in the course of time. The now well-known local name: Presumably due to its location on a survey (Valley of Paço port. for ) evolved from the name of Vale do Paço.

The circle Valpaços originated in 1836, in the course of administrative reform by the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the following Miguelistenkrieg. The newly combined communities as the new county seat Valpaços previously belonged to the circle of Chaves.

Valpaços was raised in 1861 to Vila ( town ), and 1999 for the Cidade (City).

Valpaços is the seat of an eponymous district ( concelho ) in the district of Vila Real. June 30, 2011 had the circle 16,876 inhabitants in an area of 548.7 km ².
