Vernon Fougère

Joseph Vernon Fougère ( born May 20, 1943 in Petit- de -Grat, Nova Scotia, † June 18, 2013 in Charlottetown ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Charlottetown.

Life

Joseph Vernon Fougère entered the seminary in Montreal a studied Catholic theology at the Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. He received on 31 May 1969, the ordination. He was active in pastoral ministry in various communities in Nova Scotia, he also was active for seven years in Honduras for mission work. He was there among others Member of the Priests of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa.

He attended the Jesuit Theological Union at the University of California and was appointed by pastoral activities in the diocese of Antigonish in 1988 Vicar General. He was also director of pastoral services. He was chairman of the Council of Priests of the Diocese of Antigonish and the Board of Governors of St. Francis Xavier University.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 11 December 1991 as Bishop of Charlottetown. The Bishop of Antigonish, Colin Campbell, ordained him on March 19 of next year to the bishop; Were co-consecrators Austin -Emile Burke, Archbishop of Halifax, and William Edward Power, Bishop Emeritus of Antigonish. He was a member of the National Council of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace, and in 2000 a member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic mission in Canada.
