Vice President of India

Vice President of India, after the President of the Republic is the second highest office in India. Mohammad Hamid Ansari Since 2007, the incumbent.

The Office of the Vice President is legitimized in Article 63 of the Indian Constitution. The Vice President shall be elected by the members of both Houses of Parliament ( Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha ) for five years, the terms of office are not limited. The conditions are similar to those found in the person of the president. It can be removed in accordance with Article 67 of the Indian Constitution by a majority vote of both Houses of Parliament from office.

The Vice-President assumes the office of president as acting in the event of death, resignation or dismissal of the President from office until a new president takes office. The Vice-President can assume the daily affairs even after prolonged illness or absence of the President.

The Indian Vice- President is also the President of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament, the Rajya Sabha.
