Vicques, Switzerland

Vicques was a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Wix is no longer used today. On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Montsevelier and surveying the new municipality of Val Terbi.

Geography

Vicques is located on 455 m above sea level. M., 6 km east-southeast from the cantonal capital Delémont ( straight line ). The former street line village extends Val Terbi, the eastern part of the basin Dels Berger, a broad valley in the Jura folds.

Population

With 1795 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Vicques one of the larger municipalities in the canton of Jura. Of the 93.8 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.3 % and 1.0 Italian-speaking (as of 2000). Especially since 1980, the population of Vicques has grown rapidly in the wake of the near Delémont.

Economy

History

The community Vicques can look back on a long tradition of settlement. During Roman times, here was a large estate. First mention of the village is 866 as Vicum, which was derived from the Latin word vicus ( spots). Later, the names Vich ( 1141 ), Vix ( 1308), Vic ( 1317 ), Vicq ( 1435 ) and Vick ( 1443 ) were carried out. The Mill of Vicques belonged to the pin Moutier- Grandval. As one of the 13 villages of the free reign Delsberg came Vicques 1271 to Prince-Bishopric of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815 it belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. Attractions

In the village is the modern church of Notre -Dame du Rosaire, which was built in 1959-61 on the site of a temple from the 18th century, the inhabitants of Vicques had to do some drudgery.
