Viktor Ujčík

Viktor Ujčík ( born May 24, 1972 in Jihlava, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey player. Since 2007 he plays for the HC Vitkovice Steel in the Czech Extraliga. His sister is with Tomas Kucharčík, which is also professional hockey player, married.

Career

Viktor Ujčík comes from the offspring of HC Dukla Jihlava and made his debut for them in the season 1990/91 in the top division of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the first league. After the military had ended its sponsorship of the former army clubs, Dukla had both economic as well as sporting problems. Therefore Ujčík decided to leave the club. He moved in 1995 to HC Slavia Prague and has been with his new team with 45 goals in 46 games in the season 1995/96 top scorer in the Extraliga. Due to the benefits shown he was nominated in 1996 for the first time for an A - World Cup, where he scored five points scorer in eight games.

In the following season his performance stagnated somewhat, so he decided to middle of the season 1997/98 for a change to HC Železárny Třinec. In the playoffs in 1998, he scored in 13 games 18 points scorer and reached with his team in the final. However, there Třinec lost 0-3 to the HC Petra Vsetín. In the following two years played Ujčík for Třinec, before he returned to Slavia middle of the season 2000/ 01. After this return, he was able to continue his old skill level and peaked in the remaining 19 league games 18 extra points scorer. In the playoffs the same season Slavia came before the semi-finals and Ujčík he scored eight goals in 11 games and eight assists. During the NHL Entry Draft in 2001, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the ninth round at 266th place, but never played in North America.

After 13 games of the season 2002/ 03 Ujčík was delivered to the HC Plzeň ceramics in exchange for Radek Duda and Ales Krátoška. While Slavia was at the end of the game the same time Czech champion, Ujčík changed once again with the club and joined the city rivals HC Sparta Prague. With Sparta, he reached the following season, the playoff semi-finals, but was unable to repeat his old performance. Therefore, he decided a change to other European countries and signed a contract with Kärpät Oulu. With the weasels from Oulu, he was in 2005 and 2007 Finnish Champion, before he returned to the Czech Republic. Since then, he goes for the HC Vitkovice Steel on the ice.

Internationally

Viktor Ujčík played at the U20 World Youth Championship his first game at international level. In 1996, he belonged to the tribe of the Czech national team squad and was with this in 1996, 1999 and 2001 World Champion. He also won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 1997. Overall, he scored 56 goals in 162 appearances for the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia.
