Vila Nova de Cerveira is a small town ( Vila ) and a circle ( or concelho Municipio ) in Portugal with 9297 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

History

Findings and excavations indicate a prehistoric settlement until the arrival of the Romans from the 2nd century BC. This won in mines in the church today Covas gold. However, the present town developed until the beginning of the 13th century AD. , And took the name of the well-known than Cerveira area. King D.Dinis gave the place its first town charter in 1321 ( Foral ), which was renewed in 1512 by King Manuel I in the course of his administrative reforms.

The place was the scene of the Battle of Vilanova on 17 September 1658.

Culture and sights
