Vittoria, Sicily
Vittoria is a city in the province of Ragusa in the Italian region Sicily, with 62 287 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Vittoria is located in the southern foothills of the Monti iblei located at an altitude of 168 m asl, 28 km west of Ragusa. The wine has a long tradition in Vittoria. Through the construction of greenhouses production of vegetables and fruit has gained importance.
Vittoria is located on the railway line Caltanissetta Gela - Syracuse.
The neighboring municipalities are Acate Chiaramonte Gulfi, Comiso and Ragusa.
History
On April 24 1607 Commune was founded by the Countess Vittoria Colonna, daughter of the Spanish viceroy Marcantonio Colonna. In 1693 the city was badly damaged by an earthquake and then a strictly geometrical again.

- Excavations at Kamarina lie 16 km southwest of Vittoria on the coast.
Jazz Festival
Since 2008 takes place over two weeks in June the Vittoria Jazz Festivali place, from the city of Vittoria and the Jazz Association of Sicily (Sicily Jazz Music) worn. Musical director is born in Vittoria alto saxophonist Francesco Cafiso (* 1989). Here occurred among other Stefano Bollani, Aldo Romano, Andrew McCormack, Marzio Scholten, Enzo Zirilli, bassist Nello Toscano and Carlo Cattano. The events are free. Frequently Wine Gustationen (red Cerasuolo di Vittoria), are associated with the concerts, the staff inden often outside on squares of the city. It will be held jazz workshops and a talent competition, sponsored by the local Rotary Club.
