Volvo ÖV 4

Volvo public transport 4

The Volvo PT 4 is the first production car from Volvo.

Description

The first ÖV4 ran on April 14, 1927 by band. The abbreviation PT stands for " öppen vagn " ( open car ) and 4 for the number of cylinders. From a technical perspective, this automobile was not specific, since it was based almost entirely on almost outdated technology.

The four-door body is made of metal on a wooden frame. It uses a chassis with rigid axles and long leaf springs front and rear. Inside are five people. The brakes are mechanically operated and act only on the rear wheels. Only towards the end of the production period also mechanical four-wheel brakes were available on request.

The then purchase price was 4800 SEK, which was relatively expensive and led to rather weak buying enthusiasm. In the first year a total of only 297 cars were sold. Another reason for this was that the convertible itself proved to be mounted manually with the side windows and roof material as not waterproof and so was not suitable for year-round operation in Sweden.

Because at that time mostly poor working class in Sweden still could not afford cars, the decision was made to construct even more expensive, built for the upper class cars in the future of Volvo. So the Volvo PV4 arose.

The Volvo ÖV4 is because one of the 10 prototype was completed on the name of Jacob, also known by the nickname " Jacob " known.
