The Washington Nationals are a U.S. founded in 1969 baseball franchise in the Eastern Division of the National League of Major League Baseball. Since the move from Montreal to Washington, D.C. in 2005 wearing the Nationals play their home games at Nationals Park.

History

The Expos de Montréal (English Montreal Expos ) were founded after the World's Fair ( Expo) 1967 in Montreal and 1969 took on the game mode. The Expos were the first team of the MLB, which was located outside the United States. Their home games was from the team at the Stade Olympique. Larger sporting success came from, even the spectator interest was not convincing in the long run. The last owner Jeffry Loira ( now owner of the Miami Marlins ) sold the ownership of the franchise for 120 million U.S. dollars in 2002 directly to the Major League Baseball.

In the 2003 season, some "home" games at Hiram Bithorn Stadium were held on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, who were better attended than those in Canada. The League was 2004 finally announced to move the franchise from the less profitable Canadian market in the capital city of Washington DC, where for over 30 years, no more professional baseball was played.

Such removals and rename are not uncommon in the U.S. professional sports leagues MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL. Already 1901-1971 professional baseball was played in the U.S. capital Washington DC, though usually with little success. From these Washington Senators, the semi- official Washington Nationals were also called, 1961, the Minnesota Twins. After the move, the later Texas Rangers played until 1971 when Washington Senators.

2012 Postseason

First time in 2012 the post-season has been reached after the move. In the 8:0 victory of the Division Series Game 3 of the series, Edwin Jackson started as a pitcher who pitched in the previous year for the current opponent St. Louis Cardinals. The rookie Pete Kozma, who played as a shortstop, scored a 3 -run home run in the 6th inning. Only 3 more shortstop rookies succeeded in the post-season: Chris Speier (1971 San Francisco Giants in the NLCS ), Derek Jeter ( 1996 New York Yankees in the ALCS ) and Troy Tulowitzki (2007 Colorado Rockies in the Division Series ). In Game 4 in a 2-1 home win Nationals both teams only had 3 hits each. For only the sixth time in the post-season both teams had 3 or fewer hits. The last time on 18 October 2004 ( Houston 3 hits, St. Louis 1 hit ). Jayson Werth scored just five home runs in the regular season. He suggested the victory -bringing home run to make it 2-2 in the 9th inning of the NLDS Series. Only one other player who scored in the regular season 5 or fewer home runs, could in a series in which their team is faced with the departure of slain victory. On 10 October 1981 George Vukovich hit by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th inning home run against the Montreal Expos and resembled so to 2:2 from.
