Wasting Light is the seventh studio album by American rock band Foo Fighters. It was released on April 8, 2011 by RCA Records and is the first album of the band after four years.

Formation

The recordings for the new album began in the summer of 2010. Served as the studio the garage of Dave Grohl and producer Butch Vig was loud completely analogous added ( analog multitrack tape machine ) and completely analogous mixed ( analog mixing console and sound editing ).

Although guitarist Pat Smear since 2006 was a member of Live Crew again, Wasting Light is the first album since The Colour and the Shape ( 1997), in which he is again specified as an official member of the Foo Fighters.

Guest musicians on the album could be won for the song Bob Mould Dear Rosemary and Krist Novoselic for the song I should have known. Grohl and Novoselic played for the first time since the release of Nirvana together again.

All recordings were accompanied by cameras. The material was then used for the documentary Back and Forth, showing the history of the Foo Fighters.

Publication

On 17 January 2011, the band released on its website a 30-second audio sample of the track Bridge Burning. On 1 February 2011 a sound sample of the title Miss the Misery appeared. On February 12, 2011, the video appeared to Title White Limo, in which the singer and bassist of the band Motörhead, Lemmy Kilmister starred.

On 1 March 2011 the video appeared to Rope, the first single from the album. The album itself was released in Australia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands on 8 April 2011. On 11 April 2011 the album was released in the USA on the market. 6 June 2011 appeared with Walk the second single from the album. The third single from Wasting Light, Arlandria, was released on September 5.

Reception

Critically, the album was mostly positive reviews. At Metacritic, the album a rating of 78 % as the average of 37 reviews as well as the predicate "Generally favorable" received (Eng. "Basically positive").

Maik Maerten awards 8 out of 10 and praised on plattentests.de inclusion in the garage and on to write that great melodies, sing-along choruses provide the perfect blend of mainstream and rock and roll for the stadium and loud guitars.

Josef Gasteiger of laut.de forgives 4 of 5 stars and also praised the mix of mainstream and rock and roll. He describes the music as hookigen, modern rock and roll on the king stage.

Jens Bauszus also praises the album on Focus Online and says that the tape with Wasting Light finally climb the rock Olympus and will to win new fans.

Radio Fritz thinks that the band have not really changed on Wasting Light, the one but could not really expect. Overall, the band listen to adult, serious and harder than the previous releases.

In Rolling Stone critic David Fricke forgives 4 of 5 stars. He describes the album as the best album of the band since Foo Fighters (1995) and The Colour and the Shape ( 1997).

At the 2012 Grammy Awards Wasting Light received the award in the category "Best Rock Album". Furthermore, the title "Walk" in the categories "Best rock song " and " Best Rock Performance" and the title "White Limo " as the best "Best Hard-Rock-/Metal-Darbietung " was awarded.
