Wellhausen, Switzerland

Wellhausen [ vɛlhauzən ] ( in the local dialect: [ ʋel ː hu ː ʑə ] ) is a village in the Swiss canton of Thurgau and part of the political community Felben -Wellhausen. Until 1983 it formed a separate municipality within the then Munizipalgemeinde Felben.

Name

The earliest evidence of the name of the village can be found in documents of 1314 ( Welhuss ) and 1321 (Wave Husen ). It is hiebei is a composition of the Old High German personal name and the Wello lokativisch used dative of the word hus 'house'. The basic form is * (ze ) wellinhūsun to start with the houses of Wello '. Already in 1205 is occupied above the village the name of the castle wave crest.
