West Pomeranian Voivodeship

The West Pomeranian Voivodeship (Polish województwo zachodniopomorskie; Kashubian zôpadnopòmòrsczé WOJEWÓDZTWO ) is one of the 16 provinces of the Republic of Poland. It is located in the northwestern part of the country and covers the entire western part of the historical background of Pomerania as well as ( in the far west ) a very small part of the historical Vorpommern. The capital of the province is Stettin ( Szczecin).

The West Pomeranian Voivodeship was created in 1999 as part of the Polish administrative reform from the union of the provinces Szczecin and Koszalin ( Koszalin ) and from parts of the provinces Landsberg on the Warta River ( Gorzów Wielkopolski ), Pila ( Pila ) and Stolp ( Slupsk ).

Landscape
